Guided reading is a major part of a balanced literacy program in our classroom. During guided reading students read as the teacher guides them through the story. Daily reading at home will be an important part of your child's second grade reading program. Every minute your child spends with a book brings him or her closer to becoming a fluent reader. When you child reads to you, ask them questions (Who, What, Where, When, and Why) about what they are reading.

We are doing the Daily Five in Reading. Everyday we are Reading to Self, Reading to Someone, Word Work, Working on Writing, and Listening to Reading.

Hello! My name is Mrs. Sarah Stoffel. This will be my 13th year teaching at Standing Bear. I grew up here in Omaha. My husband Joe and I have been married for ten years and we have a little girl, Ava, who is eight years old, and a son, Noah, who is six, and a one year old daughter named Lydia. We also have two dogs, Jack and Gracie. In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, going for walks, taking my kids to the park, and playing volleyball.

I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. I also completed my masters from UNO in Reading.  I love teaching and wanted to be a teacher when I was little. I am so excited to meet you and have a wonderful year with you and your family! I love to learn and have fun in our classroom.
